Born in South Vietnam, David Pham now lives in the United States, enjoying sunny California as only a millionaire can. While Pham wasn’t born into a wealthy family, he does owe his wealth to family ties; his cousin is none other than legendary poker teacher Men “The Master” Nguyen, who helped David become one of the most feared poker players on the tournament circuit.
Men was there for David from the beginning, giving him work on the dry cleaning business that Nguyen opened up with the money his early success in poker brought him. David didn’t just learn how to operate the machines and press pants, however. His tutelage under Men included the world of poker, lessons that have served him very well indeed.
In 2000 David, now known as the “The Dragon”, was named “Player of the Year” by Card Player magazine; an honor to his own ability and that of his teacher. Now residing in Bell Gardens, California with his four children, David has one World Series of Poker gold championship bracelet under his belt, and an impressive list of tournament wins, including 11 in-the-money finishes in 2005.
Some of his more recent wins include:
The $9,700 Championship Event - No Limit Hold’em
2005 Borgata Poker Open : $34,969; $1,500 No Limit Hold’em
2005 Legends of Poker : $36,765; $5,000 Short Handed No Limit Hold’em
World Series of Poker 2005 $5,940 ; and the $1,000 No Limit Hold’em World Series of Poker 2005: $154,125
