Superhero to take on Negreanu

While some may call him a superhero and others not much of a hero at all, there is no question that, among comic book fans Wolverine is one of the most popular of characters. The cigar-chomping, beer-drinking brawler has been known to play poker from time to time and in his forthcoming movie he will try his luck against none other than Daniel Negreanu.

In the upcoming movie X-Men Origins: Wolverine, the first of the X-Men movie franchise to focus on a single member rather than the ensemble team will show Wolverine playing cards, something that fans of the comic book are used to seeing. They won't be used his poker partner, however, as  Negreanu makes a cameo playing himself in the movie.

Kid Poker, as he is sometimes known, has a few things in common with the comic character. They both hail from Canada, both are on the short side, and importantly both know how to handle themselves when the chips are down.

Negereanu, however, and perhaps fortunately for his poker rivals, isn't able to pop foot-long knives out the back of his fists to settle any arguments.

It is rumored that Poker Brat Phil Hellmuth was also offered a chance to be in the movie but had to turn it down due to prior commitments. The film, also staring Liev Schreiber, Dominic Monaghan, Danny Huston and Ryan Reynolds, is due to hit the big screen in 2009.
