Simon Trumper Profile | Background on Simon Trumper
Simon Trumper

Simon is a late bloomer. For a player who is considered one of the best in Europe, he got started in poker relatively late, debuting on the scene in 1995. The very next year he placed in four major events in the United Kingdom, a feat destined to get attention. The year after that things just kept getting better, with four more events in the European Championships seeing his face at the final table, garnering him a 4th, 3rd, 2nd and 1st place finish among them.

As many poker players, Simon started things off small, keeping low limit games on his radar until his skills improved. Aces improved quickly, parleying his cash inflow into a large enough bankroll to fund bigger events with bigger limits.

Simon is fun to watch at a table, and not just for his skill (of which he has loads.) He is talkative and funny, and typically the “life of the party” as well as the man to beat. Many players, when they sit across from or next to Aces, focus on trying to knock him out of the way to improve their chances of going further in whatever event they are in. They are not often very successful.

While American audiences have had little exposure to Simon, they did get a treat watching him but heads with the Flying Dutchman Marcel Luske in a final table at the 2005 World Series of Poker. Both players are from Europe, both have great skill, and both like the spotlight. It was a fun encounter.
