This online poker room is the leader in Europe, but the bad new is that US citizen are not allowed to play! Other than that, it's an easy to navigate site with somewhere around the sixth highest traffic during peak playing hours (1000+ real money ring game players), with some very delicious high limit tables (especially the pot-limit and no-limit games). I'd say that the site is definitely a great place to play a hand of poker if you don't mind slightly boring graphics (could use a bit of sprucing up), but we are all here just play the games and not judge a beauty contest, right?

Card Game Choices

Of course you've got all the basics like Hold'em, Omaha and Seven Card stud… but they also offer Five Card Stud,which is a welcome change of pace. The only game that comes in Hi/Lo flavour is Omaha poker, but they do have an excellent assortment of short-handed tables ranging from 2 players on up to 10. Stud seems to be the game of choice here, although there's solid traffic in the holdem pot-limit and no-limit games. I can't say I blame'em. It's a great game!

Gameplay

It was very smooth going on Ladbrokes, with very simple to maneuver controls. I could easily join a waiting list for any table I wanted to join (with a nice pop-up to let me know I can sit-down now), play at multiple tables, find players that I am searching for, and the categorisation in the lobby made it very easy to find the exact table I'm looking to join. I admit that there are poker sites that offer faster gameplay, but this one is not slow enough for me to deduct points.

Soft Competition

Here you'll find a steady influx of new players (and most delightfully nexperienced) from the Ladbrokes portal, which produce flop percentages mostly in the 40-ies and 50-ies, but also on up to the 70-ies! Of course there are lots of quality players here as well, since Ladbrokes has established itself as a hip poker room. So there's always a good mix.

Deposit/Withdrawal

Interface

Now they could use with a little more 'jazzing up' of the graphics since they are a bit on the boring side, but playability was solid and that counts for a lot! You can easily view hand history right at the table (window on the right follows the action) and switching between tables (if you're juggling some multi-table play) is quite smooth. What really impressed me though, was the player profiles. They incentivise you to fill one out ($25) and it's great to read about other players. Gives the whole site a more 'community' feel.

Rake

The attractivenes of the rake will of course vary by which table you are sitting at, like the pot-limit and no-limit games are raked at $5 (which is groovy) but the lower straight limit games of up to $1/$2 are capped at $1.50 (not groovy since most other sites are $1). Poker tournament fees vary from 10% (for the $100 and over fees) to a whopping 20% (for $5-$100 games). So it just pays to know where to sit!

Incentives

Ladbrokes has really gone out of their way to provide some interesting incentives to make playing there just a bit more enticing! We're talking free rolls to win Champions League tickets and money giveaways. Now they could use a 'refer a friend' bonus, but that will come. For now you can always win $25 in chips just by filling out a player profile. Easy money and a laugh!

Tournaments

Tournaments are where Ladbrokes really shine! They've got the ring game traffic (1,200 +) even with the absence of the US contingent and they've got the games. Recently they introduced 'Ladbroke Ladders' which is a very cool multi-level Sit & Go, where you earn tokens (instead of cash) that allow you to enter the next level of the competition, at YOUR leisure. Sort of like an ongoing tourney. Great concept! They also support regional tournaments like the 'Belfast Cavendendish Club Classic and the Ladbroke's European Online Championship of Poker, just to name a few. The pots are BIG and JUICY (starting at $100,000!) and the action is definitely hot. There's no mystery why the traffic is so high!

The customer support at Ladbrokes is FANTASTIC! And I really don't get to say that very often. Email queries were answered with an hour (that's fast, if you don’t know!) with in depth and friendly answers.The phone support line was the same with quick and polite responses. I have to say that I'm very impressed that a poker website of this size is able to maintain such personal service. They are without a doubt, a very solid place to play.
