The 25-year-old Jung saw off 170 other runners in the $8,000 buy-in tournament on board the MSC Poesia which left Venice, Italy on May 3rd and sailed around the Mediterranean taking in Greece, Turkey and Croatia before returning back to Venice on May 10th with a newly crowned champion.

Jung beat Stopka heads-up and it was no real surprise to see two Germans battle for first place as although entrants came from all over the world from as far afield as Australia, Brazil, South Africa, Mexico and Canada, a massive 20% of the competitors were from Germany.

In fact there were three Germans on the final table which was led by Stopka who had the chip lead of 327,000 but was only 1,000 ahead of Jung. Jung dominated the proceedings directly knocking out four of the players on the final table, including the final hand when his J-7 came up against Stopka's A-9 and Jung flopped a 7.

"I had a lot of respect for Dominik. I had seen him play a great many hands, mostly without a showdown – and when he did have to show it was often something like aces – so he is a good player," said Jung. "However, I felt one or two others were a bit tight on the final table – perhaps wanting to try and climb the money positions."

Berliner Jung is now looking for further success at the WSOP, and to add to the 2 WSOP cashes that he already has, whilst he has decided to save the rest of the money for a rainy day.

The final positions were, 1. Alexander Jung, Germany, $358,280; 2. Dominik Stopka, Germany, $285,583; 3. Cory Albertson, USA, $159,235; 4 Mika Paasonen, Finland, $119,425; 5 Raymond Estall, UK, $92,883; 6. Andreas Jorbeck, Sweden, $67,675; 7 Johannes Strassman, Germany, $47,770; 8 Peter Steinlesberger, Austria, $31, 845; 9 Kenneth Gregersen, Denmark, $21,230.
