Casper Hansen wins Spanish WPT

Denmark's Casper Hansen has sensationally won the Spanish WPT even in Barcelona. Hansen managed to see off the 252 other entrants and take the first prize of $662,592.

Hansen's previous best tournament cash was in the Dublin EPT in October 2007 when he came ninth and took down a prize of $44,143. The win in Spain is his first major title and means he will definitely be a name to look out for over the coming weeks as the WSOP begins in Las Vegas tomorrow.

Hansen saw off a strong final table and beat Sweden's Stefan Mattsson heads up, Mattsson had been the long time chip leader but a crucial hand saw Hansen double up through him and close down the chip leader.

Mattsson was holding A 4 and Hansen A 8. The board came Q 8 3 J 5 to give Hansen a pair of eights. He did not look back from this moment and indeed took the chip lead from Mattsson just seven hands later.

In the final hand of the €5,300 event, which was held at the magnificent Casino Barcelona, Hansen went all-in with the chip lead holding A 2 after Mattsson had put in a $205,000 raise from the big blind.

Mattsson decided to call with his A 9 and although winning pre-flop, the flop revealed 5 5 2 and Hansen took the lead with two pair. A Jack and a King came on the turn and river respectively sealing the hand and more importantly the title for Hansen.

"I like to play relaxed, a bit sloppy, like I can barely count to 10," said Hansen. We think that tactic might not work quite so well with a WPT title to his name.
