Fresh from winning his fourth bracelet at the WSOP, and having already cashed three times in the series this year, guidetopoker.com takes a look at the career of the poker phenomenon that is Canadian Daniel Negreanu.
Negreanu's parents moved to Canada from Romania before he was born and he picked up playing poker in his teenage years. He was so sure of his poker abilities that he decided to become a pro and moved to live in Las Vegas at the age of 21. What was remarkable about this was that he was just one credit away from graduating from college at the time of his move.
Living in Vegas worked out well for Negreanu, as he won the 1998 WSOP $2,000 Hold'em pot-limit event, this just happened to be the first WSOP event that he had ever entered, and in doing so became the youngest ever bracelet winner at the age of 23, an achievement he held until 2004.
Negreanu has also been prolific in WPT events and in winning the Five Diamond Classic in 2004 he collected his highest payout winning $1.7million.
He is well known for his smiley and chatty demeanour at the tables and now appears regularly on televised poker, due to his entertainment factor. He has said that the reason he is so chatty at the table is a tactic to try and find information out about his opponents.
"When you get people talking, you put them at ease; they start acting more naturally, and become easier to read," he says.
Negreanu's knowledge of the game means that his thoughts on the subject are highly sought after and his advice website is extremely popular. He has also been a tutor to some celebrity poker players such as Spiderman actor Tobey Maguire, who has had some reasonable success on the poker tables.
Negreanu's nickname of "Kid Poker" came about because he always seemed to be the youngest player at the tables, and although his age continues to rise, his youthful enthusiasm for the game will remain as long as he continues to play.
