She was THIS close. Betfair Poker pro Annette Obrestad, who took the world by surprise in September at the inaugural World Series of Poker Europe, takes second place at the European Poker Tour Dublin.

The 19 year old poker superstar, who first came to fame via her online run that saw some 200 major tournament victories, didn't exactly need the money. Her win at the WSOP Europe resulted in £1 million for her bank account, and her subsequent sponsorship with online poker room Betfair Poker (read our Betfair Poker review here) put her in good stead. It was the chance to claim a second major victory in a few short months that likely drove Annette to apply her aggressive style, and it seemed to be working.

One wrong choice- pushing all in with top pair versus her opponent's two pair—doubled up Reuben Peters. A bold bluff, to which Peters came over the top all in, forced Obrestad to fold, giving Peters the lead. In the end it unlucky sevens that did it for the young Norwegian, as Annette jammed with pocket walking sticks.

Unfortunately for her and her record, Peters snagged a pair of tens on the flop and stuck it through to the end for the win.Peters took home more than half a million euros for his victory, and Annette had to settle for €297,800.

With this infusion of cash and her second place victory, Annette moves into third place in the "Top Career Poker Tournament Earnings by Women" category. She is close on the heels of Annie Duke, but has a ways to go to catch up with the biggest winner, Kathy Liebert.

Keeping in mind that if you count online cash game earnings Annette may well be on top, and the fact that she is not even of legal age to play poker at the Las Vegas World Series of Poker yet (and not for a few years) the Betfair poker pro is very likely a favorite to surpass the other two many times over during her career.
