It wasn't long ago – a few weeks – that the largest prize pool guarantee for an online poker event was $2 Million, and that was a brand new high. Now the bar has been raised by another fifty percent. Online poker room Pacific Poker has just announced the launch of the $3 Million World Poker Crown Tourney.

This event is significant in a number of ways. To begin with never before in the history of online poker has a single event offered such a large prize pool guarantee. The guarantee means $3 million will be paid out to the winners of the event, regardless of how much money is generated by the players. With this large a guarantee, however, it is unlikely that Pacific Poker will have much of an overlay, if any at all.

This event will also offer up a full third of that guarantee as the prize for the first place finisher. A $1 Million first prize puts this event on par with the biggest and the best of live poker tournaments, which still lead the field with payouts.

The World Poker Crown tournament will run on Saturday, April 26th at 10:00 PPT. Players who want to get right into the action can buy in directly for $1,000, while those wishing to satellite in can do so for as low an entry price as $1.10.

Like many big online poker room tournaments, this one will have a live finale. When the play gets down to 8 players, the game will freeze. The players will be flown to Barcelona Spain to partake in the final event final table, running sometime between May 6 and May 10.
